Suparco Announces Pakistans Lunar Rover Naming Contest Heres How To Participate

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has revealed plans to launch the country’s first lunar rover in 2028 as part of China’s Chang’e 8 mission. To commemorate this groundbreaking step in space exploration, SUPARCO has introduced a nationwide contest inviting the public to propose a name for the rover. The winner will receive Rs 100,000 along with national recognition for their contribution.

The competition is aimed at catering to three distinct demographics: students, space enthusiasts, and the general public. All participants are required to submit a single name that is both meaningful and original, along with a written brief explanation for their choice.

How to Participate?

  • Visit the official SUPARCO website or their social media platforms.
  • Look for the lunar rover naming contest section.
  • Submit your suggested name for the lunar rover, along with a brief explanation of why you think that name is suitable.

SUPARCO is in search of innovative name proposals from participants who want to convey Pakistan’s scientific excellence through culturally relevant entries. The “Name Pakistan’s Lunar Rover” competition provides an opportunity for students, space enthusiasts, and the general population of Pakistan to participate in the country’s space initiatives.

The Pakistani lunar rover is intended for deployment in the southern region of the Moon, where scientists suspect that water, ice and uncommon minerals are present in substantial quantities. The rover will be equipped with scientific apparatus designed by Pakistani researchers, which will incorporate European and Chinese research instruments. It will navigate the Moon’s rough terrain, conduct experiments, and relay data back to Earth.

The mission will enhance Pakistan’s space research capabilities and contribute to international lunar studies, all while inspiring the next generation of scientists. By studying the Moon, scientists can gain insights into planetary evolution, Earth’s history, and the possibilities of sustaining life beyond our planet.
