SUPARCO Launched Pakistan’s First Indigenous EO-1 Satellite

Pakistan has successfully launched its first fully indigenous Electro-Optical (EO-1) satellite, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s space exploration efforts. The satellite was launched on Friday from China’s Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, representing a major advancement in Pakistan’s space research and development.

The launch ceremony, which was broadcast live from SUPARCO‘s compound in Karachi, provided Pakistanis with an opportunity to see the event in real time. The EO-1 satellite provides important information about weather patterns, soil moisture, crop health, and natural disaster tracking, as well as environmental change monitoring and the tracking of natural disasters. This data is used to increase agricultural productivity.

It is believed that the satellite will improve Pakistan’s defence capabilities by providing real-time surveillance, which will enhance national security, in addition to its environmental applications.

A New Era in Pakistan’s Space Endeavors

After Pakistan’s first multi-mission satellite, PAKSAT MM1, was successfully deployed in May 2024, the country will launch EO-1. The PAKSAT-MM1 was launched from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Centre and is currently orbiting the Earth at an altitude of 36,000 km. The satellite will transform Pakistan’s communication networks with its state-of-the-art communication technologies and a 15-year lifespan.

“The satellite will breathe new life into the communication system but will also provide the fastest internet facility,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif exclaimed, praising the accomplishment. Electronic commerce, economic activity, and e-governance will all benefit from a more robust communication infrastructure.
