The Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has predicted that Eid ul-Fitr 2026 is likely to be celebrated on March 21, as the chances of sighting the Shawwal crescent on March 19 are very low. The final announcement will, however, be made by Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
SUPARCO said the new moon of Ramadan-ul-Mubarak 1447 AH was born on February 17, 2026, at 5:01 PM Pakistan Standard Time. On March 19, the moon will be just over 12 hours old at sunset, with only 28 minutes between sunset and moonset along Pakistan’s coastal belt, making it difficult to sight.
Based on these observations, the commission expects that 1st Shawwal 1447 AH will likely begin on March 21, marking the end of Ramadan.
SUPARCO stressed that while scientific calculations are helpful, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is the only authority to officially declare Eid based on verified moon sightings and credible witness reports from across the country.
