Sony and Guerrilla Games have finally broken their silence. Today, they officially announced Horizon Hunters Gathering for PlayStation 5 and PC. This new title is a 3-player co-op action game that blends the familiar Horizon universe with fresh roguelite elements.
Back in December 2022, Guerrilla Games confirmed they were working on a multiplayer project. After years of silence and minor leaks, they have finally revealed official gameplay and story details. The game features a “unique stylised look” that sets it apart from the main series.
Horizon Hunters Gathering focuses heavily on cooperative play. Players choose from a roster of distinct hunters. Each character boasts unique abilities, playstyles, and weapons. You will embark on missions to defeat Machines, collect loot, and upgrade abilities.
Crucially, the game uses a roguelite perk system. These upgrades refresh between runs, keeping the gameplay loop dynamic. Furthermore, the game supports both cross-progression and crossplay between PC and PS5. However, cross-progression requires players to log into their PlayStation account on both platforms.
Currently, the game features two distinct modes:
While the visual style is different, the narrative remains significant. Studio Director Jan-Bart Van Beek confirmed that the story is “fully canon” to the wider Horizon universe.
The plot features series protagonist Aloy and her ally Erend. In a new story trailer, Aloy tasks Erend with recruiting a new band of hunters. You can play this story mode solo with NPCs or in co-op with real players. The narrative introduces new mysteries and threats, and Guerrilla promises the story will continue after the game’s launch.
Between missions, players visit a social hub called “Hunters Gathering”. Here, you can socialise, customise your hunters, and visit vendors.
Guerrilla Games has not provided a specific launch window yet. They stated the game is still early in development. However, you won’t have to wait long to try it.
A “small-scale closed playtest” begins at the end of this month (February 2026). It is open to both PS5 and PC players. To participate, you must sign up via the PlayStation Beta Program and register your interest. Guerrilla has promised more regular updates in the coming months.
