By conducting an Independent Quality of Service (QoS) Survey in seventeen (17) cities across the country during Q4 2024, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) aimed to measure the performance and quality of services offered to customers by Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs).
Almost every metric measured in the QoS survey had Zong and Jazz at the top, with Ufone not far behind. One of the worst was Telenor.
According to the PTA survey, cellular mobile operators (CMOs) generally met the key performance indicators (KPIs) for voice and latency that were required by their licenses and relevant regulations. However, they fell behind in a number of categories because of the worsening internet and network issues that were noted in 2024.
During the survey, Quality of Service testing was performed for Voice, Mobile Broadband (Throughput, Latency, and Web Browsing), and Short Messaging Service (SMS).
In 64 days, the survey drive covered the maximum areas of the cities that were surveyed, which amounted to about 2,270 kilometres of traveling for every CMO. The survey included a total of 46,000 calls and SMS tests and 0.33 million mobile broadband tests.
Data tests were conducted on survey routes while sampling the 4G/LTE signal strength in technology auto-detect mode. There was a 90% confidence level of signal strength compliance across all cities.
