Telenor Asia Welcomes Ccp Approval Of Ptcl Telenor Merger Awaits Pta Nod

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially issued its “No Objection Certificate” (NOC) for the change in ownership control of Telenor Pakistan to PTCL. Telenor Asia confirmed the development in a statement released today.

This issuance marks a major milestone in the telecom sector’s consolidation. Telenor Asia welcomed the regulatory approval and highlighted the authority’s diligence during the process.

The company stated:

We appreciate the PTA’s careful consideration, reflecting its continued commitment to strengthen Pakistan’s telecoms sector.

With the NOC now secured, the acquisition enters its final phase. According to Telenor Asia, the final closing of the sale is expected as soon as possible once the remaining legal requirements are fulfilled.

Previously, the PTA conducted a comprehensive review of the transaction under the applicable regulatory framework. The authority evaluated the deal’s potential impact on market competition and consumer interests. Furthermore, the regulator consulted relevant government bodies to ensure full compliance with statutory requirements.

Both the regulator and the operators have prioritised consumer protection. The PTA has mandated that both companies ensure the continuity and quality of services throughout the transition. They must also uphold all license obligations.

Telenor Asia reassured its user base regarding daily operations. The company added:

Telenor Pakistan will continue operations as usual, serving their customers across Pakistan together with their partners and vendors in this transition.

The PTA has affirmed it will closely monitor the process to safeguard consumer rights and maintain a competitive telecom sector.
