Telenor Asia Welcomes CCP Approval of PTCL-Telenor Merger, Awaits PTA Nod
In a fresh development for Pakistan’s telecom industry, Telenor Asia has officially responded to the Competition Commission of Pakistan’s (CCP) conditional approval of PTCL’s acquisition of Telenor Pakistan, calling the decision a “significant milestone” for sector growth.
The company emphasized that this transaction would not only strengthen Pakistan’s telecoms sector but also provide the foundation for long-term innovation and broader connectivity across the country.
Telenor Asia stated that the CCP’s decision marks a key step forward in the ongoing process. The deal, valued at $400 million, still requires a green light from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) before completion. “We look forward to the timely approval process and final completion of the transaction soon,” the company noted.
Reassuring subscribers, Telenor Pakistan confirmed that its operations will continue uninterrupted, serving its 43 million customer base during the transition. This assurance comes amid broader market anticipation that the PTCL-Telenor merger will reshape Pakistan’s telecom landscape by consolidating resources, expanding coverage, and boosting digital services.
If fully approved, this merger will bring together the strengths of PTCL’s Ufone and Telenor Pakistan, creating a stronger competitor in the market while addressing network quality, service innovation, and sector efficiency. Analysts see this as a test case for Pakistan’s telecom future, where consolidation may become the path to resilience and growth in a highly competitive industry.
