A new Toyota model has hit the market.
Toyota has officially announced the production version of its new all-electric sedan, the Toyota bz7, at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, thus giving away a big hint towards a major advancement in electric vehicles in China.
Developed in partnership with GAC-Toyota, the bz7 becomes the first model from the joint venture to feature Huawei’s HarmonyOS cockpit system, tailored specifically for the Chinese market by the Regional-Chief Engineer team.
Initially previewed as a concept at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show, the finalized version of the Toyota bZ7 showcased at the Shanghai Auto Show 2025 reflects Toyota’s focus on adapting to local consumer needs with enhanced design and technology.
The Toyota bZ7 sports a modern closed-off front grille, slender C-shaped headlights stretching across the front, and a roof-mounted lidar sensor, indicating the inclusion of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS). Given the HarmonyOS setup, it is anticipated that Huawei’s ADS driving system may also be part of the package.
At the rear, the sedan features a full-width taillight, a high-mounted brake light, and a compact rear wing for a sporty aesthetic. The side profile boasts a fastback roofline flowing into the rear wing, semi-hidden door handles, and large 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. Unlike the concept model, the production version uses conventional side mirrors and traditional door handles, opting for a more practical design.
Inside, the Toyota bZ7 offers a contemporary cabin highlighted by ambient lighting, a floating central touchscreen, an embedded digital instrument cluster, and a three-spoke steering wheel. Wireless charging pads are included in the center console, while a panoramic sunroof enhances the open feel of the interior space.
While Toyota has yet to release detailed powertrain specifications for the bZ7, further updates are expected later this year as the sedan approaches its official market launch.
The arrival of the Toyota bZ7 at the Shanghai Auto Show 2025 comes as GAC-Toyota reports robust performance, selling 171,477 vehicles in the first quarter of 2025. Sales surged in March with 66,066 units sold, marking a 19.3% year-over-year increase. Alongside the new bZ7, GAC-Toyota’s bZ electric lineup in China currently includes the bZ3X and bZ4X models.
