Toyota Unveils the Hilux Hybrid 48V: Everything You Need to Know About the Toughest Eco-Friendly Pickup
Toyota has introduced a new version of its renowned Hilux pickup, the Hilux Hybrid 48V, offering an eco-friendly twist to the iconic vehicle. This new model combines Toyota’s trusted 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine with a mild hybrid system, enhancing the Hilux’s durability and off-road performance while providing improved fuel efficiency, smoother driving, and greener credentials.
The Hilux Hybrid 48V utilises an electric motor-generator as well as lithium-ion hybrid battery power with its turbodiesel components connected through a DC-DC converter system. The combined hybrid system decreases fuel consumption while improving driving performance and generating both quiet and smooth experiences in urban areas and off-road conditions. With its rugged characteristics intact, the hybrid system enables the Hilux to maintain a 700mm wading depth, a 1,000kg payload capacity and a 3,500kg towing capability suitable for commercial and recreational purposes.
The Hilux Hybrid 48V provides Toyota’s Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) functionality that features six selectable control modes, including Sand, Mud, Rock, Dirt, Deep Snow and Auto. The vehicle modes enhance transportation performance by providing optimal traction while maintaining stability along with control capacity across various surface conditions. The Hilux Hybrid 48V provides powerful and smooth performance that satisfies both off-road enthusiasts and commercial vehicle users during their excursions on sand dunes and muddy and rocky terrains.
The Hilux Hybrid 48V features a mild hybrid system which enhances acceleration while enhancing both regenerative braking function and automatic stop-start performance. When combined with the 48V lithium-ion battery system the vehicle obtains 12kW power and 65Nm torque assistance during startup events that leads to better driving comfort and improved off-roading abilities. The electric motor-generator operates the stop-start system which leads to rapid and seamless restarts when stopping in heavy traffic.
The electric motor-generator and hybrid battery responsible for sustaining the legendary durability of the Hilux are located high on the engine to preserve its 700mm water wading capability and superior off-road features. The hybrid system timing belt employs a high-strength cotton fabric layer to maintain dependable performance under demanding environmental conditions.
The Hilux Hybrid 48V supports Toyota Safety Sense technology that incorporates Pre-Collision System (PCS), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and Automatic High Beam (AHB) to enhance protection of passengers and drivers. This vehicle features contemporary multimedia capabilities, including the Toyota Smart Connect system that employs an eight-inch display together with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Availability in Pakistan
The Hilux Hybrid 48V is currently available in the UK, specifically in the premium Invincible X Double Cab model with automatic transmission. At this stage, Toyota has not confirmed the launch of the Hilux Hybrid 48V in Pakistan. However, given the Hilux’s strong market presence in the country, it is expected that Toyota may eventually introduce this hybrid model to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly vehicles.
