US Cancels All Visa Appointments in Pakistan Amid Security Concerns

Published by

The United States Embassy in Islamabad has cancelled all visa and American Citizen Services appointments across Pakistan for March 2, citing security concerns due to ongoing protests. Demonstrations have erupted in major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Skardu, following reports of a US strike reportedly targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader. Authorities have stepped up security and imposed restrictions to prevent further unrest.

Protests began after news circulated of a US-led operation against Ayatollah Khamenei. Crowds gathered outside US diplomatic missions in Karachi and Lahore, where police deployed tear gas to control demonstrators.

In Karachi alone, clashes left at least 10 people dead, with gunfire reported as protesters tried to breach the consulate gates. Similar incidents occurred in Skardu and Islamabad, where two and 11 protesters were killed respectively.

The US Embassy warned its personnel to limit movement and urged American citizens in Pakistan to stay alert, avoid large crowds, and update their registration with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program.

In response to the demonstrations, Punjab and Islamabad authorities enforced Section 144, banning public gatherings and rallies in affected areas. Despite these measures, protesters attempted marches toward the embassy in Islamabad, highlighting tensions and public anger over the international incident.
