USD to PKR Falls Below 280 as Rupee Hits 11-Month High

Published by

USD to PKR declined further on January 14, 2026, as the Pakistani rupee strengthened to 279.97 per dollar, marking its strongest close since February 2025. The local currency extended its winning streak to 79 consecutive sessions, reflecting continued stability in the interbank market and improved sentiment around Pakistan’s external accounts.

The recent appreciation of the rupee is largely supported by controlled imports, steady remittance inflows, and better foreign exchange management. Since late 2025, the PKR has shown consistent recovery after prolonged volatility, aided by tighter monetary policy and reduced pressure on the current account. Analysts believe short-term stability has improved, although long-term sustainability will depend on export growth and external financing.

Quoting interbank data, the rupee gained three paisas against the US dollar, closing at 279.9735, compared to 280.0018 a day earlier. This move confirms renewed confidence in the local currency amid subdued dollar demand.

Currency dealers expect USD to PKR to remain range-bound in the near term, with minor appreciation possible if inflows remain steady. However, external debt repayments and global dollar movements will continue to influence direction.
