USD to PKR Holds Near 279.46 as Rupee Extends Gains Against Major Currencies

Published by

The Pakistani rupee (PKR) opened the week on a positive note, posting gains against the US Dollar (USD), British Pound (GBP), and other major currencies despite ongoing regional tensions following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The PKR closed at 279.46 against the US Dollar, registering a marginal gain of one paisa. This marks the 110th consecutive day of the rupee closing in green against the USD, reflecting steady resilience amid geopolitical uncertainties.

The local currency also strengthened against the British Pound and Euro, gaining Rs. 3.06 against GBP to close at 373.57 and Rs. 2.47 against EUR to settle at 327.47. Gains were also observed against the Australian Dollar (Rs. 1.67) and the Malaysian Ringgit (Rs. 0.70).

Meanwhile, the rupee posted minor gains against regional currencies, closing at 76.09 against UAE Dirham (AED) and 74.44 against Saudi Riyal (SAR). The only notable loss was against the Canadian Dollar, where it depreciated slightly by 20 paisas to 204.62.

Analysts attribute the rupee’s stability to improved trade flows, remittances, and investor confidence, despite lingering geopolitical risks and global commodity price fluctuations.
