Balochistan Govt Orders Suspension Of Mobile And Internet Services In Quetta

ISLAMABAD: The Universal Service Fund (USF) has attributed ongoing Balochistan network issues to security challenges in the region, affecting telecom service delivery. During a recent Senate IT and Telecom Committee meeting, USF officials provided insights into projects completed over the past three years and the difficulties faced in expanding network coverage in remote areas.

USF officials stated that their primary mandate is to provide telecom services in rural and remote areas. Over the last three years, 63 projects have been completed across various rural regions. However, the officials highlighted that Balochistan network issues remain a significant challenge due to security-related disruptions.

Ministry of IT representatives emphasized that USF has facilitated telecom services in multiple villages nationwide. Despite this progress, Senator Humayun Mohmand raised concerns about the frequent complaints regarding Balochistan network issues. USF officials responded that security problems in Balochistan often lead to service outages and hinder project implementation.

Senator Saifullah Niazi stressed that USF must take responsibility for monitoring and addressing network challenges, particularly in areas like North and South Waziristan, where projects face additional obstacles. Addressing another pressing issue, the Chairman of the Committee inquired about internet disruptions on motorways. USF officials assured that PTA has taken up the matter and is actively working on a resolution.
