Usman Anwar Takes Charge as DG FIA in New Law Enforcement Restructuring

Dr. Usman Anwar has been officially appointed as the new Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the federal government confirmed on Monday.

Dr. Anwar previously served as the Inspector General of Punjab Police, taking office in January 2023. During his tenure, he earned recognition for introducing reforms and strengthening professionalism in the provincial police force.

The appointment comes as part of a broader reshuffle in Pakistan’s law enforcement leadership. Rao Abdul Kareem, formerly Additional IG of the Special Branch, has now been posted as IG Punjab, while Raja Rafat Mukhtar has been assigned to the Narcotics Control Division.

The FIA, Pakistan’s premier federal law enforcement agency, handles a wide range of responsibilities including cybercrime, economic crimes, and human trafficking.
