WhatsApp has remained free for years, despite persistent rumors claiming it would start charging users. Those warnings never came true, and the core messaging service will continue to stay free. Now, reports suggest the company is planning a new paid tier called WhatsApp Plus.
This premium version is expected to bring more customization options, letting users change the app theme, icon, and accent colors. WhatsApp Plus will reportedly offer 14 new app icons along with multiple color choices for interface elements.
Subscribers may also get the ability to pin up to 20 chats, a big increase from the current limit of three. In addition, exclusive ringtones will be available for premium users, and more features, like special stickers, could be added later.
The launch date and pricing for WhatsApp Plus remain unknown, but details are expected to emerge soon. Fans of the app will likely find the new options a significant upgrade.
