WhatsApp to Add Message Shortcut for Status Updates

WhatsApp is gearing up to roll out a new feature that will allow users to send messages directly from status updates, eliminating the need to navigate away from the screen. This upcoming enhancement is expected to make interactions more seamless and efficient.

The feature was recently spotted in the WhatsApp Android Beta 2.25.9.6 update, where the platform is testing a shortcut that enables users to message contacts from their status viewer’s list. By simply tapping the message icon at the bottom of the status update, users can instantly open a chat window.

Previously, sending a message after viewing a status update required users to manually search for the contact in their chat list. This process could be time-consuming, especially for those who had not interacted with the contact for a while. However, the new shortcut streamlines communication by allowing direct messaging from the status update screen.

WhatsApp’s goal with this feature is to simplify user interactions by providing a quick messaging option for contacts who have viewed a status update. Currently, the feature is available to select beta testers through the Google Play Beta Program. A wider rollout is expected soon with an official stable update.
