WhatsApp to Alert Users When Contacts Change Their Usernames

​WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will automatically notify users when their contacts change their usernames. This update, currently in beta testing, aims to enhance transparency and security within the app.​

According to reports, when a contact updates, deletes, or modifies their username, an automatic message will appear in the chat to inform participants of the change.

This notification system is designed to keep users informed and may help identify unauthorized account access if a contact’s username changes unexpectedly.​

Unlike previous updates, this feature does not offer an option to disable notifications, ensuring that all users are kept in the loop regarding username changes. The feature is under development and will be available in future updates to the app.​

This development follows WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to enhance user privacy and security, including the introduction of usernames and PIN support to limit spam messages.​
