When Will Pakistan Get Faster Internet? IT Secretary Responds

ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Secretary for Information Technology addressed the issue of sluggish internet speeds in Pakistan, providing clarification during a session in the National Assembly.

The assembly members raised concerns about the slow internet service in the nation during the session presided over by Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa. The discussion took place during the question hour, revealing people’s growing dissatisfaction.

Legislative Secretary for Information Technology Sabheen Ghoury responded to the concerns by assuring the chamber that internet speed would increase by mid-year. She went on to say that the same time frame is also being considered for the deployment of 5G services.

She elaborated on the many causes of the country’s poor internet connection. We are actively working to resolve these issues and improve the digital infrastructure as a whole.

Lawmakers Voice Their Frustration

Agha Rafiullah, a member of parliament for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), expressed frustration with the slow internet throughout the session, saying that even downloading a video was difficult. Similarly, Member of Parliament Shagufta Jumani made reference to a statement made by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, who had made the amusing observation that it appears like some unknown “fish” are always attempting to harm Pakistan’s internet lines.
