Lahore Metro Bus Service will continue operating without interruption after Punjab Mass Transit Authority officials and operator company VEDA reached an understanding to keep the transit system running, averting a potential shutdown that had raised concerns among daily commuters.
The development came after General Manager Operations at the Mass Transit Authority, Uzair Shah, confirmed that the two sides had made headway in resolving a dispute over financial and operational demands from VEDA.
He said the authority was treating the concerns of the company seriously and that both parties were actively working toward a resolution.
According to Shah, commuters need not worry about any disruption to their daily commute, as the Metro Bus Service will remain functional while negotiations continue in parallel.
He noted that another round of talks between VEDA and the MTA is scheduled for today, with officials expressing optimism that further progress will be made on settling the outstanding demands from the company.
VEDA warned last week that it would suspend operations from August 11 due to a lack of fuel funding. The company said it had exhausted its financial resources and could not continue operating without fuel supplied by the Punjab Mass Transit Authority.
VEDA cited a July 29 court order directing PMA to arrange fuel from its own sources and said its subsequent requests received no response.
During a meeting on August 6, PMA said it needed explicit directions from the Punjab government before deciding on the matter, while VEDA said no solution had been communicated afterward.
