The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has denied issuing any notice regarding the non-availability of fresh currency notes for Eid ul Fitr 2026. The clarification comes after a fake letter began circulating on social media, claiming that the central bank would not distribute new banknotes this year.
In a statement shared with media, an SBP representative confirmed that the institution has not issued any notification titled “Non-Availability of Fresh Currency Notes for Eid-ul-Fitr 2026.”
The spokesperson emphasized that if such an announcement were genuine, it would have been released through an official press release. The State Bank communicates with the public and mainstream media strictly through verified and formal channels.
The fake document, widely shared online, falsely claimed that new currency notes would not be issued this Eid. It also stated that SMS services for fresh note distribution would remain inactive and that citizens should rely solely on digital payment methods.
However, SBP clarified that no such decision has been made. Officials reiterated that the bank does not circulate official notices through unofficial letters, WhatsApp messages, or SMS alerts. Any claim not published on SBP’s official platforms should be treated as unverified.
The central bank urged citizens to rely only on official press releases and announcements issued directly by the State Bank of Pakistan. Authorities have advised the public to ignore fake letters and refrain from spreading unverified information on social media.
Eid ul Fitr traditionally sees high demand for fresh currency notes, as families distribute Eidi among children and relatives. Any official update regarding fresh note issuance will be communicated through the SBP’s verified communication channels.
