The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued a PTA Windows security alert following Microsoft’s urgent warning regarding a critical vulnerability in Windows 11 version 24H2. The flaw threatens devices installed using outdated physical media, leaving them vulnerable to cyber threats if not addressed swiftly.
According to the latest PTA Windows security alert, the vulnerability largely affects IT professionals, system administrators, and educational institutions that continue to rely on DVDs or USB drives for installing or updating Windows. Devices updated through online methods like Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog are reportedly unaffected by the flaw. Microsoft has categorized this vulnerability as high-severity, with the attack vector specifically linked to the use of obsolete installation methods.
To mitigate the risk, the PTA strongly advises against using installation media containing updates from October or November 2024. Instead, users are urged to generate new installation media that incorporates the December 2024 security patch or newer. Microsoft further recommends that affected devices undergo a complete reinstallation using the updated media to restore their ability to receive critical security updates.
