Women in Punjab to Get Driving Licenses at Their Doorstep

The Punjab government has introduced a new initiative to make it easier for women to obtain driving licenses without visiting traffic offices. Under the program, a Pink Mobile Police Station and Licensing Unit has been launched to deliver licensing services directly to women at their doorstep.

City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani inaugurated the mobile service at Rawalpindi Medical University on Wednesday. Female students and staff were able to receive learner permits and registration services on-site during the launch ceremony.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam explained that the government previously operated two mobile units for the general public, but the new service, part of the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s women empowerment initiative, specifically targets women seeking driving licenses.

Each mobile van features four counters equipped for biometric scans, fingerprinting, and instant license printing. Four female officers have been appointed to manage the process, ensuring a comfortable and accessible experience for applicants.

According to CPO Hamdani, a total of 33 mobile units are now operational across Punjab, helping women apply for learner, permanent, and international driving licenses without the hassle of visiting police offices. He said the women driving license initiative will empower women by improving their mobility and independence.
