World’s First Driverless Electric Rickshaw Unveiled in India

India has made history by unveiling the world’s first autonomous electric rickshaw, marking a new era in smart urban mobility. Developed by Omega Seiki Mobility, the eco-friendly vehicle named Swayamgati uses advanced AI-based technology to operate entirely without a driver  a milestone for both clean energy and transport innovation.

This innovation aligns with India’s growing push toward electric and autonomous mobility. The Swayamgati e-rickshaw runs on a 10.3 kWh battery, capable of traveling up to 120 kilometers per charge, offering a zero-emission alternative to conventional fuel-powered rickshaws.

According to Omega Seiki Mobility,

“Swayamgati is not just a vehicle, it’s a vision for the future  a blend of sustainability, safety, and automation.”

The rickshaw’s AI system uses LiDAR, GPS, multi-sensor navigation, and obstacle detection to move safely even through congested areas. It can switch between autonomous and manual modes, making it suitable for airports, industrial parks, and urban smart zones.

During its Phase 1 testing, Swayamgati completed a 3-kilometer route with seven stops entirely driverless. The passenger model is priced at INR 400,000 (PKR 1.26 million), while the cargo variant costs around INR 415,000 (PKR 1.31 million).

Currently, there’s no confirmation of an international launch, meaning a debut in Pakistan remains uncertain  but this innovation signals a major leap toward the future of AI-driven green transport in South Asia.
