Xiaomi 17 Ultra Tipped to Feature Major Camera Improvements
Xiaomi is preparing to complete its flagship lineup with the long-awaited 17 Ultra. After introducing the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, the company’s most powerful model is now making headlines ahead of its debut.
While Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed the launch date yet, the timeline suggests it could arrive soon. For context, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra was launched in February after the company skipped the number 16 to align with Apple’s naming strategy.
Fresh reports from China have revealed exciting new details about the Xiaomi 17 Ultra’s camera system. According to the source on Weibo, the upcoming device will feature a new 50MP main sensor capable of improved in-sensor zoom across multiple focal lengths. The report claims this zoom range nearly matches the reach of its periscope lens, offering greater flexibility for photography enthusiasts.
The periscope camera is said to be a completely new unit as well, packing an impressive 200MP sensor with telephoto macro capabilities and multi-focal lossless zoom. Both main and telephoto cameras are expected to deliver significantly higher dynamic range, promising sharper and more balanced images.
Earlier leaks suggested that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra might include a total of four rear cameras. Three of these sensors could feature 50MP resolution, while the 200MP periscope camera would handle long-range photography.
However, it remains unclear if Xiaomi will retain the rear display design seen on the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. Given the Ultra’s larger camera module, the extra screen might be dropped to accommodate the upgraded optics.
