YouTube said on Wednesday that it will launch a redesign of its TV app this summer. On the radar are AI integration, easier navigation, playback, and quality tweaks, as well as better access to comments, channel info, and subscribing.
The company, hailed as the video king, didn’t provide any further details about the redesign, but they have rolled out and unveiled a few other new features for its apps.
YouTube is also soft-launching an AI-powered feature called “Ask Music” that can generate a personalized radio station based on your description of the music you want to hear. At the moment, this is only available on the iOS and Android apps to English-speaking YouTube Premium and YouTube Music subscribers in select countries.
Meanwhile, YouTube TV subscribers can now customize what they see using the multiview feature, which lets you watch up to four streams at the same time. Users will be able to start customizing their multiview feed with a few popular non-sports channels, and will be able to do so with more channels in the coming months.
Multiview was initially limited to sports content, and later got support for some non-sports content, but until now, users could only pick from preselected multiview screens that YouTube TV chose.
YouTube Premium is also getting support for 4x playback speed. And for content creators, the company said it would broaden access to a feature that lets channel owners reply to comments on their videos using voice notes.
However, with Rumble on the rise and streaming platforms gaining traction by every passing day, YouTube is under pressure to maintain its sovereignty.
