Riot Games’ latest fighting title, 2XKO, has hit a major stumbling block just days after its January 20 release. Console players on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox are reporting consistent and severe screen tearing. The issue has sparked widespread complaints online, with many fans stating they will stop playing until the developer releases a patch.

The Technical Cause: Speed vs. Stability
Screen tearing occurs when a display shows parts of multiple frames simultaneously, creating a visible horizontal split. This visual defect is particularly noticeable during rapid camera movements. Reports suggest 2XKO launched without Vertical Synchronization (V-Sync) to minimise input latency. While this reduces lag, it causes the game to present new frames mid-scan. Consequently, the frame rate desynchronizes from the display’s refresh cycle.
This problem appears most frequently on high-refresh-rate displays, specifically those running at 120Hz. However, users with standard screens are not immune to the defect.
Xbox Users Have a Band-Aid Fix
While PlayStation 5 owners currently have no workaround, Xbox players might have a temporary solution. According to a Reddit user, enabling system-level 120Hz output and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) can significantly reduce the tearing.
However, this method has limitations:
- You must own a VRR-compatible monitor or display.
- It may reduce display bandwidth.
- It does not guarantee a 100% fix.
Since the issue persists at the software level, a true solution requires an official patch from Riot Games.

Riot’s Silence & 2XKO Maintenance Woes
As of now, Riot Games has not officially acknowledged the specific screen-tearing reports. The developer did take Ranked Mode offline over the January 24–25 weekend to address “game-impacting bugs”, but they did not confirm if visual glitches were part of that list.
Furthermore, players report that casual lobbies remained inconsistent during the maintenance window. This instability has hindered progress in the ongoing “Caitlyn Champion Recruitment Event”. Fortunately, you can still earn XP by completing the game’s tutorial missions while waiting for a fix.
