Na Committee Pushes Fbr To Reduce Heavy Smartphone Taxes In Pakistan

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued notices to 30 individuals under scrutiny for flaunting extravagant lifestyles on social media while underreporting their income in tax returns. Chairman Rashid Langrial revealed that people showing off luxury cars, homes, clothes, and even horses online are now being closely monitored by tax authorities.

This move is part of the FBR’s broader crackdown on tax evasion, with comprehensive data collected on those who either failed to file tax returns or submitted inaccurate information. A Chief Commissioner for Enforcement has been appointed to coordinate nationwide actions, ensuring daily monitoring and reporting of these operations.

Government Measures and Enforcement

Langrial emphasized,

“We will continue robust action against tax evaders across the country.”

Highlighting recent achievements, he noted that sales tax collection from the sugar industry increased by Rs. 40 billion in the past year. Strict measures will be taken against anyone holding untaxed sugar stock.

On smuggling, Langrial stated that customs authorities are conducting daily operations to curb illicit trade, despite recent incidents in which two tax officers lost their lives in the line of duty. He reiterated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has zero tolerance for tax evasion and has instructed the FBR to take the toughest possible actions.
