Academic activities at 41 government schools in Attock have remained suspended for eight days after the institutions were temporarily used to accommodate police and other security personnel deployed for protest-related duties.
The closure has affected hundreds of students, while parents and teachers have raised concerns over the loss of classroom time as the academic year continues. According to district education authorities, the affected institutions include 21 boys’ and girls’ high schools in Hazro, nine schools in Hassanabdal, seven in Fatehjang, and two each in Attock and Jand tehsils.
The schools are being used as temporary accommodation and resting facilities for security personnel arriving from different districts of Punjab. Around 30,700 personnel, including members of the Elite Force, Special Branch, and Punjab Highway Patrol Police from six districts, have reportedly been deployed in Attock as part of security arrangements.
Some of the additional personnel have been accommodated in schools and other public buildings, resulting in the suspension of regular academic activities at the affected institutions.
The PTI had postponed its planned September 27 march until October 4, but classes at the affected schools have yet to resume. Students and parents are therefore waiting for academic activities to restart.
