54 Drivers Penalized in Motorway Anti-Speeding Campaign

The Motorway Police (MP) has launched a strict anti-speeding campaign to curb violations and enhance road safety. As part of the crackdown, authorities have already prosecuted 54 drivers for exceeding speed limits, according to an MP spokeswoman.

The campaign targets major highways, including the Lahore–Sialkot Road and motorways M-2, M-3, M-4, and M-5.

As part of the ongoing crackdown on speeding violations, the Motorway Police have taken strict action across multiple highways. On the Lahore–Islamabad Motorway (M-2), authorities registered 19 First Information Reports (FIRs) against violators. Similarly, four speeding cases were documented on the Lahore–Sialkot Road.

The M-3 and M-4 motorways also saw a significant number of violations, with five incidents recorded between Lahore and Multan and six between Faisalabad and Multan. Meanwhile, the highest number of offenders were caught on the M-5 (Sukkur–Multan Motorway), where 20 individuals were found exceeding the speed limits. The Motorway Police continue to enforce strict measures to ensure compliance and enhance road safety.

According to the Motorway Police, light vehicles on three-lane highways are allowed a maximum speed of 120 km/h, while heavy vehicles are restricted to 110 km/h. Drivers exceeding these limits will face strict penalties.

Stricter Penalties for Traffic Violations

In September last year, the government implemented a 200% increase in fines for violations on national highways and motorways.

  • Speeding fines:
    • Rs 2,000 for general speeding
    • Rs 5,000 for motorcyclists, cars, and light transport vehicles (LTVs)
    • Rs 10,000 for heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) and public service vehicles (PSVs)
  • Other fines:
    • Rs 1,000 for lane violations (motorcyclists, cars, and LTVs)
    • Rs 5,000 for lane violations (HTVs and PSVs)
    • Rs 300 for improper overtaking
    • Rs 2,000 for using high-intensity discharge (HID) lights

The Motorway Police continue to enforce these regulations to ensure safer roads and stricter compliance with traffic laws.
