A strong 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck Islamabad and several parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Friday night, sending tremors across multiple regions of the country.
The earthquake was also felt in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), with residents in cities including Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Muzaffarabad, and Skardu reporting noticeable shaking.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the quake was recorded at 9:13 PM PST by its National Seismic Monitoring Centre. The tremor had a depth of 190 kilometres, indicating a deep-focus earthquake.
Officials stated that the epicentre was located in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region, at latitude 36.48°N and longitude 70.84°E, an area known for frequent seismic activity.
No immediate reports of casualties or major damage were received at the time of filing this report. Authorities are monitoring the situation as aftershocks remain possible in the region.
