NITB’s Beep App Completes Testing, Set for Deployment to Government Employees
ISLAMABAD: The National Information Technology Board (NITB) has successfully completed the testing phase of the Beep app, a secure messaging platform developed exclusively for government employees.
After comprehensive testing within the Ministry of IT and its associated departments, the app is now undergoing the final clearance process. This includes ensuring compliance with security protocols, encryption standards, and hosting requirements before its official rollout for federal employees.
Cybersecurity experts and relevant government agencies are evaluating the app’s encryption technology, firewall security, and overall data protection framework. During the testing phase, several improvements were made, including a redesigned user interface resembling WhatsApp to enhance user-friendliness.
The Beep app has been developed with a five-million-user capacity and is hosted on National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) servers. This ensures that all data remains within Pakistan, strengthening national security. The app employs WhatsApp-style end-to-end encryption to safeguard communication.
Unlike public messaging apps, Beep will be exclusively available to government employees. Access will be granted only after document verification, and each verified user will receive a unique access code for authentication.
To maintain strict communication boundaries, the app features dedicated communication layers for each ministry. There are also separate channels for inter-ministerial discussions and a specialised layer for direct secretary-to-secretary communication.
By introducing the Beep app, the government aims to enhance secure internal communication and reduce reliance on third-party messaging platforms. This initiative represents a significant step toward strengthening cybersecurity and ensuring confidential government discussions remain protected.
