Pakistan and China have agreed to expand cooperation in space science and technology under the Action Plan 2025 to 2029. The partners will move forward on astronaut training and the establishment of a Pakistan Space Centre to support research and applied space services.
The two sides will continue to implement the Space Cooperation Outline Program for 2021 to 2030. That program guides joint work on lunar and deep space exploration and supports multilevel assessments for the International Lunar Research Station.
The action plan sets out joint astronaut selection and training. Officials said the programme could open pathways for Pakistani participation in human spaceflight missions in cooperation with China. Training will also involve mission preparation medical check and technical skills on how to operate in space.
It will also discuss the creation of a Pakistan Space Centre as a hub in Pakistan satellite operation remote sensing and advanced research. The centre will cater to scientific centers government agencies and business sectors to come up with satellite applications to prevent agricultural disasters water management climate and city planning.
The two countries also agreed to enhance the access of Pakistan to the international version of China Platform of Earth Observation System. Pakistani users will gain the access to a higher resolution imagery and data to be used by crop assessment disaster response and coastal monitoring.
Authorities termed the plan as a larger strategic alliance that connects space collaboration with trade infrastructure and scientific exchange. The collaboration focuses on capacity building in terms of technology transfer and research to promote economic modernisation of Pakistan.
The programme will necessitate an ad coordination in relation to funding regulation arrangements and technical standards.
The two governments indicated they will conduct regular consultation to help them finalise timelines on the development of curriculum on training facilities and gradual implementation of joint projects.
