The Punjab government has approved the province’s first dedicated anti-drone unit with a budget of Rs. 3 billion, aiming to counter rising drone-related security threats.

The decision comes amid growing global concerns over unauthorized drone use, which has posed risks to sensitive sites, public gatherings, and border regions. By establishing this specialized force, Punjab is aligning with international practices in modern security management.

The anti-drone unit will use a multi-layered defense strategy combining radar detection, signal jamming, directed-energy systems, and rapid mobile response teams. Six radar stations will monitor low-to-medium altitude airspace, while jamming technology will disrupt control signals to disable rogue drones. Hazardous drones may be neutralized with directed-energy weapons, and mobile teams will provide on-the-spot interception and protection during emergencies or major events.

Officials emphasized that this layered system is designed to secure high-risk areas and deliver swift responses to drone activity. They described the project as a vital step to safeguard Punjab’s citizens and infrastructure from emerging aerial threats.
