The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) is set to establish a Special Unit as part of its plan to enhance tax collection and enforcement across the province. The new unit will include professionals such as factory representatives, tax consultants, legal experts, and data analysts. The government has also approved the recruitment of 130 enforcement officers and decided to expand the Punjab Revenue Authority’s operations to 30 districts.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has set an October 30 deadline for the completion of this expansion. Additional Deputy Commissioners General (ADCGs) will be assigned additional responsibilities to support the authority’s operations in the newly included districts.
The provincial government is also reviewing the inclusion of 19 new sectors under the provincial tax framework. To improve taxpayer convenience, the PRA has launched a dedicated mobile application. The Chief Minister emphasized that “honest taxpayers must not be harassed” and urged officials to focus on bringing untaxed sectors into the revenue net instead.
According to official data, the Punjab Revenue Authority collected Rs66.41 billion in taxes during the first quarter of fiscal year 2025-26, marking a 28% increase from Rs51.98 billion collected during the same period last year. Additionally, Rs1.7 billion was collected under the Punjab Infrastructure Development Cess. The authority confirmed that this growth was achieved without introducing new taxes or increasing existing rates.
Meanwhile, PRA enforcement teams have launched a province-wide crackdown on unregistered service providers to expand the tax base. The teams are conducting field surveys and issuing notices to unregistered businesses as part of the authority’s ongoing efforts to strengthen compliance and transparency.
