Uet Lahore Unveils Anti Smog Gun To Fight Air Pollution

The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore has introduced a locally developed anti-smog gun designed to help reduce airborne pollutants and dust in major urban areas. The innovation, created by UET’s engineering faculty, aims to assist the government in tackling Lahore’s worsening air quality crisis.

Smog has become a recurring environmental emergency in Punjab, particularly during winter months. The government has already launched measures against smog-emitting vehicles and industrial pollution, and this new innovation marks a technological step forward in the province’s broader anti-smog strategy.

The anti-smog gun was inaugurated by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb at UET Lahore, in the presence of Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Munir, Higher Education Minister Rana Sikander Hayat, and Information Minister Azma Bukhari.

“This modern suppression system will help cut particulate matter in the air and control dust at construction sites  a major cause of urban smog,” said Dr Shahid Munir, Vice Chancellor of UET.

Marriyum Aurangzeb praised the development as a “significant achievement”, adding that the Punjab government plans to integrate the machine into its environmental protection initiatives.

“Smog control remains among the government’s top priorities,” she emphasized.

Meanwhile, Rana Sikander Hayat announced financial support for the further development and large-scale deployment of the technology across Punjab.

The gun uses a high-pressure mist system to neutralize airborne dust particles, a method already proven effective in several smog-prone regions worldwide. Experts say such innovations could significantly aid Pakistan’s efforts to meet air quality targets and reduce health risks linked to smog exposure.
