Sindh Rolls Out Pink Ev Scooters For Women And 2 1 Million Free Houses

The Sindh government has announced a strict crackdown against men found using pink electric scooters distributed under the Pink Scooter Project, an initiative designed exclusively for female students and working women. Authorities warned that any scooter being misused by male family members will be immediately impounded.

Speaking to The News, Managing Director of Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) Kanwal Nizam Bhutto emphasized that scooters operated without registration number plates or valid driving licenses will also be confiscated. “The use of helmets is mandatory for women riders’ safety,” she said, underscoring the government’s commitment to safe and lawful implementation.

Launched as part of the Sindh government’s women empowerment drive, the Pink Scooter Project aims to promote independent mobility for women in urban areas. So far, 200 scooters have been distributed among eligible women in Karachi and nearby districts, following training programs on traffic rules and road safety.

Bhutto confirmed that police, traffic police, and excise departments have been directed to take immediate action against unauthorized use.

“If male members start using these scooters, it defeats the very purpose of women’s empowerment,” she stated.

The government plans to expand the program by adding 725 more electric scooters, which will be distributed in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, and Larkana. Officials say this expansion will further support women’s mobility, education, and employment access.

The initiative, praised by civil society groups, reflects Sindh’s ongoing push for gender-inclusive transport solutions, though officials caution that strict enforcement is vital to protect its intent.
