Lahore Traffic Police Crack Down on Unfit Vehicles to Curb Smog
In a renewed effort to combat Lahore’s worsening air pollution, the Lahore Traffic Police have launched a strict campaign targeting unfit and smoke-emitting vehicles. Special enforcement teams have been deployed at major city entry and exit points to stop vehicles without valid fitness certificates from entering Lahore.
Chief Traffic Officer Dr. Athar Waheed stated that the initiative is part of the government’s broader anti-smog drive, aimed at reducing emissions and improving air quality.
“No vehicle without a fitness certificate will be allowed to enter the city. This step is essential to control pollution and protect public health,” he said.
According to official data, over 24,500 unfit vehicles were penalized in October alone, including 17,000 smoke-emitting vehicles and 8,000 unsafe trolleys carrying dirt and sand. The enforcement rate has reportedly increased four times compared to last year, showing a strong commitment to environmental safety.
Dr. Waheed urged citizens to maintain their vehicles properly and cooperate with authorities. Lahore, which frequently ranks among the world’s most polluted cities, is witnessing intensified efforts to curb smog ahead of the winter season.
