The Punjab government is set to introduce 27 metro buses and two trams on the 20-kilometre Faisalabad Orange Line, connecting Faisal Town on Jaranwala Road to Tahirpur, Jhang Road. Chief Minister Mariam Nawaz is expected to inaugurate the project soon, offering a modern commuting option for thousands of daily passengers.
The project’s PC-1 has been approved, featuring 22 stations, two depots, and six U-turns along the route. Officials urged WASA, FESCO, Sui Gas, PHA, the Municipal Corporation, and Traffic Police to coordinate utility relocations promptly.
“The Orange Line metro service will provide a major facility for the commute of citizens,” said Capt (retd) Zahid Saeed, Member Punjab Mass Transit Authority.
Residents along the route will be informed in advance about temporary service closures during utility shifting. The initiative reflects Punjab’s commitment to enhancing urban transit and reducing travel times across Faisalabad.
In parallel, construction of a 280-bed Emergency Block at the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology has begun. Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar laid the foundation for the Rs55 million, four-story facility, expected to be completed within 10 months. The block will strengthen emergency cardiac care for the 4,000 patients visiting daily.
This dual development underscores Punjab’s focus on improving both public transport and healthcare infrastructure in Faisalabad.
