Nadra Unveils Digital Fingerprinting With Facial Verification Backup

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has officially launched a new digital fingerprint verification system. This update comes through a collaboration with the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports.

Officials confirmed that applicants can now verify their fingerprints directly through the NADRA Pak ID mobile application. Consequently, this update makes the procedure more accessible for users situated both at home and abroad.

The system addresses common technical hurdles. Previously, fingerprint scanning often failed due to worn fingerprints or technical glitches. To prevent delays, the new system automatically offers an alternative facial verification option in these situations. This ensures a smoother process for the applicant.

Mustafa Jamal, Director General of Immigration and Passports, highlighted the necessity of this update. He noted that a large number of overseas Pakistanis reported difficulties with the previous online fingerprint system.

Furthermore, he stated that the new verification tools will provide considerable relief to expatriates. This specifically benefits senior citizens, who frequently encounter issues with biometric authentication due to ageing skin.

Jamal added that the government remains committed to integrating modern technology across its digital services. He emphasised that this upgraded verification framework functions as part of a broader initiative. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure citizens can access passport and identity-related facilities with greater ease, accuracy, and reliability.
