The wait is almost over. Capcom’s recent Resident Evil Showcase dropped massive reveals for the upcoming title, Resident Evil Requiem. The developer confirmed the game launches on February 27, bringing back fan-favourite Leon S. Kennedy alongside newcomer Grace Ashcroft.
Here is everything you need to know from the event.
Classic Horror Meets Modern Action
Capcom is clearly aiming to please everyone. Resident Evil Requiem features dual protagonists with distinct playstyles. Leon S. Kennedy returns with the high-octane action-horror style popularised in Resident Evil 4. During the showcase, Leon was seen aggressively engaging enemies, shooting zombies, crushing heads with his boot, and even wielding a chainsaw stolen from the undead.
In contrast, Grace Ashcroft’s segments focus on traditional survival horror. She isn’t defenceless, however. Grace wields a high-calibre revolver named “Requiem” and utilises a crafting system. Players can collect blood from fallen enemies to create powerful items, such as a syringe that causes zombies to explode.
Furthermore, Capcom revealed a groundbreaking AI system. Zombies now retain “muscle memory” from their former lives. The showcase displayed a custodian zombie still cleaning and a chef undead chopping meat. Players can observe these routines to plan stealthy takedowns or avoid combat entirely.
The Return of Ink Ribbons in Resident Evil Requiem
Hardcore fans requested it, and Capcom delivered. Resident Evil Requiem reintroduces the classic “Ink Ribbon” save system. This feature is tied specifically to the “Standard (Classic)” difficulty setting. In this mode, Grace’s sections become significantly harder, and saving your game requires finding limited ink ribbons.
Ideally, this offers a throwback challenge for veterans without punishing casual players. For those who prefer a modern experience, the “Standard (Modern)” difficulty plays like recent RE titles, while a “Story” mode focuses strictly on puzzles and narrative.
Hardware, Merch & The “Elpis” Mystery
The showcase dropped a major hardware hint. A “Requiem Switch 2 Pro Controller” is officially on the way, effectively confirming the game’s presence on Nintendo’s next-generation console. Additionally, the game will launch on “GeForce Now” alongside previously revealed platforms.
Capcom also highlighted several collaborations and merchandise drops:
- Porsche: Leon drives a Porsche in-game.
- Hamilton Watches: Grace and Leon wear specific watches, with 2,000 real-life units available for purchase.
- Collectables: New Amiibo figures and 1/6 scale statues of the protagonists launch this fall.
- Events: 30th Anniversary concerts are scheduled for Japan, Europe, and North America.
Finally, the event teased a narrative mystery called “Elpis”. This plot point connects Leon to the death of Alyssa Ashcroft, Grace’s mother. Fans will have to wait until February 27 to uncover the truth.
