The Universal Service Fund (USF) and Jazz have signed agreements to launch new broadband services projects across Pakistan, the Ministry of IT and Telecommunications announced today. Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunications, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
USF CEO Chaudhry Mudassar Naveed and Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim signed the agreements, marking the official launch of four broadband projects valued at Rs1.16 billion. The projects will cover nine districts, including Bahawalnagar, Attock, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, and Sheikhupura.
In addition, high-speed broadband and voice communication services will be introduced in Chiniot and Abbottabad, providing modern connectivity to underserved areas. According to the minister, these projects will benefit 533,000 people living across 203 villages and rural communities.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized that all projects are expected to be completed within 6 to 18 months, ensuring rapid expansion of broadband access in the country.
The minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to address connectivity challenges. She noted that plans to expand spectrum availability and launch 5G services are in their final stages, paving the way for faster internet and mobile services nationwide.
Under the USF, billions of rupees are being invested in new broadband and optical fiber cable projects. Shaza Fatima added that over the past six months alone, USF-approved projects have exceeded Rs20.5 billion, demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving digital infrastructure.
