In a significant crackdown against smuggling and illicit trade, Customs Enforcement Peshawar has successfully seized smuggled goods and vehicles valued at Rs. 170 million. The operations targeted illegal imports including narcotics, foreign-origin vehicles, and other contraband, marking a strong step toward protecting the national economy.
The seizures were carried out by different formations of the Collectorate. ASD Nowshera intercepted 3,430 kg of black pepper and 2,420 kg of cashew nuts, detaining a Mazda truck (Reg. No. LEI-8919). ASD D.I. Khan recovered 27.7 kg of foreign-origin charas (hashish) with another Mazda truck (Reg. No. TAR-698), along with cigarettes, pan masala, cigars, CV joints, and Toyota fuel filter assemblies. ASD Hazara seized a foreign-origin Toyota Hilux Surf (Model 1991, Chassis No. LN130-0056092).
“These operations are a major blow to smuggling, illicit trade, and narcotics trafficking,” stated a Customs spokesperson, highlighting the ongoing commitment to enforcing the law.
Smuggling remains a critical challenge in Pakistan, affecting both revenue collection and public safety. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has increasingly prioritized anti-smuggling operations to safeguard the economy, prevent illegal trade, and ensure compliance with customs regulations. The recent Peshawar operations reinforce the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward smuggling and illegal imports.
All seized items and vehicles are now subject to legal proceedings under the relevant provisions of Pakistani law. The FBR and Customs Enforcement agencies continue to monitor and intercept smuggling networks, aiming to curb illicit trade and protect local industries.
