Punjab has taken another major step toward digital governance as the Excise & Taxation Department introduces online biometric vehicle verification, allowing citizens and overseas Pakistanis to verify vehicle ownership from home using PAK-ID. The move eliminates lengthy paperwork and in-person visits, making the process faster and more transparent.
The new system, developed in collaboration with NADRA, enables vehicle owners to complete biometric verification digitally through the PAK-ID platform. Previously, overseas Pakistanis were required to submit attested affidavits verified by Pakistani embassies or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a process that often took weeks.
With this upgrade, NICOP holders and local residents can now authenticate their identity online without involving agents or visiting excise offices.
Officials say the initiative is part of Punjab’s broader push to reduce manual processes and improve service delivery.
“This digital verification system will significantly reduce delays, eliminate middlemen, and improve transparency in vehicle ownership records,” the department stated.
The system is expected to benefit thousands of overseas Pakistanis who frequently face difficulties managing vehicle records while living abroad.
This initiative aligns with Punjab’s ongoing efforts to modernize public services through technology, following recent digitization measures in taxation, licensing, and citizen records. By integrating NADRA’s biometric database, the Excise Department aims to enhance security while simplifying compliance for citizens.
