The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has urged parents to set clear screen time limits for children, warning that excessive and unmanaged internet use can negatively impact learning habits, mental health, and overall well-being. The advisory comes amid growing concerns over children’s safety in the digital environment.
In its advisory issued on February 3, 2026, the telecom regulator emphasized that protecting children online is a shared responsibility between parents, educators, and authorities. PTA stressed that while the internet offers educational benefits, unchecked screen exposure can disrupt healthy routines and family life.
“Unmanaged screen exposure may adversely affect children’s learning patterns and overall well-being,” the PTA warned.
The authority advised parents to actively monitor online activities and guide children on responsible internet and social media use. It also stressed educating minors about online risks, including harmful content, cyberbullying, and unsafe digital behavior.
To strengthen online safety, PTA recommended the use of parental control software and content filters. The regulator noted that a list of approved parental control tools is available on its official website to help parents restrict access to inappropriate content and ensure safer internet usage.
With increased internet penetration and smartphone usage across Pakistan, children are spending more time online for education and entertainment. Regulators have repeatedly raised concerns over digital safety, making parental involvement a key focus of online child protection efforts.
