Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has extended Basant celebration timings in Lahore till 5:00am on Monday, rewarding citizens for disciplined and safe festivities. The announcement came as the historic festival returned after 25 years, marking a major cultural revival in Punjab.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Maryam Nawaz said the decision was taken after witnessing responsible, vibrant, and joyful celebrations across Lahore and other parts of Punjab. Basant, once banned due to safety concerns, made a regulated comeback this year under strict government SOPs.
“Looking at the incredible energy, unity, and joy across Lahore and Punjab, I am pleased to extend Basant celebrations till 5:00am,” the chief minister wrote.
Maryam Nawaz praised citizens for strictly following safety guidelines, including kite-flying regulations, rooftop security, and caution around electric wires. She urged people to continue celebrating responsibly to ensure the festival remains incident-free.
Expressing satisfaction, she said the extension was a reward for public trust, adding that families and children participated enthusiastically yet safely.
Encouraged by Lahore’s success, the chief minister announced plans to expand Basant celebrations to other cities in Punjab. She also highlighted colorful and responsible events at safari and wildlife parks, reaffirming the government’s commitment to cultural revival while protecting nature and public safety.
“Lahore is happy today, and so am I,” she remarked.
