Larian Studios has released a surprise patch for Baldur’s Gate 3. This update targets critical technical issues that hindered player progression. Even as the developer shifts focus to its next major project, it continues to maintain the award-winning RPG. This latest hotfix specifically addresses save-loading errors and transition bugs.
Critical Fixes for Saves & Progression
The most significant portion of this update fixes “corrupted saves” and stability issues. Larian Studios noted on its official Discord that stubborn glitches required intervention. Most notably, the patch resolves a heartbreaking bug where players could not transition from Act 2 to Act 3.
The download size is approximately 100 MB. However, this small file carries heavy implications for Ironman or Honor Mode playthroughs. In these high-stakes runs, a corrupted save means losing hundreds of hours of progress. Fortunately, Reddit users report that previously “unplayable” saves now load correctly.

Platform-Specific Improvements
The February 2026 update brings tailored fixes for console and handheld players.
- PlayStation 5: Fixed a specific freeze triggered by pressing L2.
- Xbox: Resolved host-side crashes when a client leaves a session. It also fixes client-side crashes when suspending during multiplayer loading.
- Mac & Steam Deck: The patch fixes crafting-related crashes on the Native Build.
Portable play received specific attention. Larian updated the default upscaling on Steam Deck from FSR 1 to FSR 2.2. This change improves sharpness and overall loading times. Additionally, the update fixes bugs that caused external controllers to stop functioning on the device. For PC users, the patch improves VRAM consumption on Nvidia GPUs.
Larian’s Future Focus Regarding Baldur’s Gate 3
This update highlights Larian Studios’ commitment to “patching until perfect”. This dedication protects the emotional investment players have in their characters. However, the studio has largely moved on to the future of the Divinity franchise.
Larian confirmed its next title will return to the Divinity universe. Consequently, players should not expect new story DLC or major feature expansions for Baldur’s Gate 3. While maintenance patches will continue, the studio is now leveraging its resources for its next IP.
