Today, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced plans to develop a new Geographic Information System (GIS) based web portal. This centralized digital platform will actively improve the monitoring of telecom network coverage, infrastructure, and service quality across the country.
The proposed portal will systematically collect and organize network data from telecom operators nationwide. Furthermore, this data collection explicitly includes remote and underserved regions such as Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. By mapping infrastructure and coverage patterns, regulators will clearly analyze regional disparities. Consequently, this data will actively support policy decisions to improve overall connectivity.
Through this new Geographic Information System (GIS) platform, the PTA will directly visualize telecom towers, network coverage areas, and service performance indicators on interactive digital maps. Therefore, the system will easily identify coverage gaps. It will also monitor quality of service trends and securely track ongoing infrastructure expansion.
Overall, the GIS web portal provides robust data analysis tools. These tools will specifically assist in planning future network improvements and ensuring better service availability for users. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will manage this entire project directly from its headquarters in Islamabad. Ultimately, this broader initiative represents a major step toward enhancing transparency and efficiency within telecom sector monitoring.
