The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has withdrawn the mandatory bank account condition for beneficiaries of its Ramadan Package 2026, following widespread public criticism and pressure from social activists and local representatives.
A formal notification issued by provincial authorities confirmed that eligible families will no longer need a bank account to receive financial assistance under the scheme.
Under the KP Ramadan Package 2026, the government is providing Rs12,500 in financial aid to deserving households across the province. However, the earlier requirement that recipients maintain a bank account had sparked backlash, particularly from rural communities.
Citizens and public representatives termed the condition impractical, noting that many low-income families especially in remote districts lack access to formal banking services. Social workers warned that the rule risked excluding thousands of deserving beneficiaries.
After revising the mechanism, authorities announced that applicants will now be registered using:
- Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC)
- Mobile phone number
- Basic household details
Officials said the updated process will expand access to relief funds, particularly for residents of underdeveloped and rural areas who were previously at risk of exclusion.
Provincial authorities expressed confidence that removing the banking will simplify registration, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and ensure timely distribution of financial support to the maximum number of eligible families during Ramadan.
