Vivo has confirmed that its upcoming X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max will use MediaTek’s new Dimensity 9600 Pro chipset. MediaTek unveiled the flagship smartphone chip earlier today. It is built on a 2nm process and targets high-end smartphones.
Oppo had already confirmed its Find X10 Pro Max would feature the same chipset. However, Vivo will announce its phones one day earlier. The vivo X500 Pro and X500 Pro Max will launch on September 21. Oppo will unveil the Find X10 Pro Max on September 22.
This makes Vivo’s upcoming phones the first devices officially announced with the Dimensity 9600 Pro. The company highlighted the milestone through its official Weibo account. Vivo also shared several details about the X500 Pro series’ imaging capabilities. Both phones will support 4K video recording at 120fps with 10-bit Log.
The company is also adding its imaging NPU 2.0 to the lineup. vivo claims it will deliver “industry-leading 60fps autofocus” performance. In addition, a self-developed imaging chip will power 4K Dolby Vision portrait video. Vivo says this will also offer “industry-leading” performance.
The X500 Pro series will also feature a new high-performance AI processor. More details about the chip and its capabilities are expected at the launch. With the September 21 launch date, vivo now has a one-day lead over Oppo. The X500 Pro series will therefore be the first to officially arrive with MediaTek’s latest flagship chip.
