The disciplinary storm surrounding the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL) intensified today as the Lahore Qalandars confirmed a significant fine for captain Shaheen Shah Afridi.
This follows a string of high-profile penalties involving stars like Naseem Shah, Fakhar Zaman, and Hasan Ali, raising questions about player conduct and protocol adherence during the tournament.
The three-times champions Lahore Qalandars have officially fined Shaheen Shah Afridi PKR 1 million following a security breach at the team hotel.
In a letter addressed to PSL chief executive Salman Naseer, Punjab Police alleged Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sikandar Raza escorted the visitors to a player room.
The letter stated the visitors remained inside the hotel room for approximately three hours despite prior refusals from security officials responsible for maintaining strict protocols.
While the police described the incident as a serious violation of safety protocols, the Lahore Qalandars franchise released a statement terming it a “misunderstanding” and an “overstated isolated incident.”
The franchise has shared its formal response with PCB, reaffirming its commitment to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while maintaining that there was no deliberate intent to compromise security.
The Fakhar Zaman Ball-Tampering Charge
The defending champions are facing a double blow as opening batter Fakhar Zaman currently faces a potential one-to-two match ban.
During a high-stakes clash against Karachi Kings on Sunday, umpires penalized Lahore five runs after concluding the condition of the ball had been deliberately altered.
The experienced left-handed opener has been charged with a Level 3 Offence under Article 2.14 of the PCB Code of Conduct.
While the start batter has denied the charges, a final verdict from Match Referee Roshan Mahanama is expected within the next 48 hours.
Hasan Ali’s Code of Conduct Breach
Discipline issues have not been restricted to the Lahore Qalandars. Karachi Kings fast bowler Hasan Ali was fined 10 percent of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the Code of Conduct.
The incident occurred during the same match against Lahore, where Hasan was found to have used disparaging language or gestures toward batter Haseebullah Khan following a dismissal.
Naseem Shah’s Record-Breaking Fine
Perhaps the most staggering disciplinary action this season was the PKR 20 million fine slapped on Naseem Shah by the PCB.
The penalty stemmed from a social media post from Naseem’s account that was critical of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during the PSL opening ceremony.
Although Naseem claimed his account had been hacked and issued an unconditional apology, the PCB ruled that he had breached several clauses of his central contract regarding media policy.
